2004 © Kelly Reark, No Guts, No Sushi. Acrylic on canvas (16x20). "No Guts, No Sushi" was inspired by a lot of time offshore tuna and mahi fishing, and on an island mostly inhabited by rumrunners and watching a very popular pirate movie. Also, there may have been rum drinking involved.  I find it hard to pass up a wisecrack idea. Someone has a tiki bar that needs a painting. Sardine Slammers is one of the first paintings my husband Dave watched me paint from start to finish. The ultramarine and cobalt blue is so saturated in this painting that I stopped production of the print edition after the proofs were made. A printer cannot replicate it.
